Well, it was time to get dressed up to eat, drink & dance. I hit the wall this morning. The two weeks caught up with me and ended up sporting a 101.5 fever. Nothing that a little trip to the clinic couldn't cure. Back at 99 and feeling much better, but it meant no drinking for me (hard for an Irish liver to understand).
Below are a couple of pics from the night. Everyone had a great time. The China Team has been nothing short of perfection in their hospitality.
You guys look so beautiful and happy. Congratulations and have a safe flight home. Good luck with your son's birth. Please keep us posted. We're waiting on the big news. Best to Christi. Feel better soon. We're thinking of you all.
Posted by: joni at June 10, 2004 08:02 AMYou all look fabulous in your lucky red outfits! I dig Katie's "cheong sam!"
...as you know, we're going to have consider having a special "Red Egg and Ginger" party in the summer to celebrate Sophia's first month in her new home and Baby B's first month...According to Chinese tradition, once a baby reaches one month of age, they believe that baby and mom have recovered from the birthing process enough to be presented to the world. So, a Red Egg and Ginger party is held in honor of the baby..."
Of course, I'll be happy to help organize a special California version (maybe Judy, Frank and others can lend some creative influence), since I missed both baby showers. A little background:
"In China of old, it was customary for mother and child to be homebound for a full month. This is the time for both to gain strength and health. After this critical period is over, the occasion of this blessed event can then be celebrated.
The red egg symbolizes good luck and the ginger (yang) serves a dual purpose (to ward off evil spirits and to equalize the cold (yin) of the new mother).
The traditional diet of the new mother is chicken whiskey soup and pickled pigs feet. Both dishes are nutritious and have medicinal value because they provide a source of protein and calcium, act as a purifier and blood thinner, and also rid the body of cold air in the system."
We'll have to skip the special diet dish, as I don't think Christi would be thrilled with that...unless my Mom wants to lend a helping hand...
Cheers,
monica

Monica,
The party sounds good. Perhaps we can add a little California to the cuisine. How 'bout "tequila-soaked bbq chicken?"

Glad you enjoy it as it has also been quite good for me to plunk some of this down while it's been happening. Look forward to showing off the new crew to you all soon.
